Inventory Controller

Position Summary

Inventory Controller is responsible for the maintenance and management of accurate product inventory for the facility. Including all data entry associated with inventory adjustments as well as some cycle counting and physical inventory verification.

About Us

Riverbend Nursery is a progressive, container wholesale growing operation that sells quality ground covers, perennials, and ornamental grasses to retailers, landscapers, and re-wholesalers. The nursery is situated on 100 acres in Riner, Virginia and is located in the southwestern portion of the state, between Christiansburg and Floyd. The scenic Little River surrounds the property on three sides in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Thirty-four acres are utilized for production; 31 acres in container crops and 3 in field production. A total of 4 million containers are grown yearly in 227 cold frames. Over 1800 varieties are produced in both heated and unheated greenhouses and 70% of these are propagated in house. Our distribution area extends from New Jersey to the upper portions of South Carolina with the majority of the product shipped by our own truck fleet. Orders taken for outside of our trucking area and smaller orders are shipped UPS daily. Riverbend Nursery has been in operation for 17 years. During peak growing seasons Riverbend Nursery employs approximately 120 employees with the year round staff totaling around 70 persons.

Essential Functions

Create, manage and distribute inventory reports
Assist Production Services division with other functions
Work closely with all divisions within the organization to ensure accurate inventory at all times
Facilitate and lead physical inventory verification events

Additional Responsibilities

Enter daily potting information, plant moves, and losses, occurring on a daily basis.
Working with the shipping and growing division to ensure all inventory discrepancies are corrected accurately, as they are discovered.
Manage the inventory of pre-finished and finished products that are received from outside the organization.
Provide Growers with crop signage.
Set up new items and item cards and locations for various products.
Maintain accurate, organized files on all inventory issues.
Maintain and manage performance indicators.
Assist and work with our Georgia division on issues related inventory and production. Including product transfer to and from VA. to GA.
Weekly cooler inventory.
Process order acknowledgements
Purchasing reporting
Collect availabilities weekly from green goods vendors.

Job Context

Works from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday generally; however, hours may vary due to season and work load. Weekend work and overtime is occasionally required. The environment is a controlled office setting. Walking over uneven terrain, climbing stairs, bending, and occassionally lifting up to 35 lbs is required. The Inventory Controller reports directly to the Production Services Manager.

Work Environment

Works in both a typical nursery operation and office environment. Includes working within the office, outside growing environment and within greenhouse structures. Includes standing and walking on a variety of surfaces (concrete, gravel, soil, and wood). Includes working around operations equipment, irrigation equipment, fork lifts, tractors, trailers and other nursery equipment. Uses office equipment including fax, copier, telephone, two-way radio, computer, and calculator. The above responsibilities may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation, if needed.
