Asarum (Á-sa-rum)

Family: Aristolochiaceae · Common Name: Wild Ginger

Kidney shaped leaves grow from creeping rhizomes that bear small flowers hidden beneath the foliage. Also known as Wild Ginger because the rhizomes tastes and smell similar to the ginger root, but the two are not particularly related. Makes an attractive groundcover and can also be grown in shade gardens.
